Magnetic Resonance Therapy

Frequently Asked Questions

A viable alternative to surgery and long term medication for patients suffering with joint pain, osteoarthritis and sports injuries.

A non invasive and risk free therapy that works at a cellular level to stimulate the regeneration of the damaged tissues.

More than 220,000 patients treated worldwide with proven success rates over 70%.

Available to you and your patients with no upfront investment costs or maintenance.

How does it work?

Using the same principles as an MRI scan the MBST uses pulsed electromagnets to stimulate the hydrogen atoms within the body.

MedTec’s research enabled them to identify those frequencies which have a useful, provable effect on the surrounding tissue, initially cartilage alone, which stimulated better cell health.

Additional frequency options have now been introduced to include bone, ligament, tendon and to target osteoporosis

The first effects are anti-inflammatory resulting in pain reduction and increased ROM in the short term and also allowing patients to do more rehabilitation sooner. Long term, the effects on cells include regeneration of cartilage, reduction in bone odema, better bone and wound healing post operatively, and some interesting effects on the cellular circadian rhythm.

What can be treated?

Broadly speaking most disorders and issues in:

Cartilage

Ligaments

Tendons

Bones

Disorders and injuries to the bone:

  •  Accelerate healing after a TKR or THR
  • Fractures of all kinds
  • Osteocondritis
  • Metabolic and circulatory disorders
  • Pseudoarthritis
  • Plantar Fascitis and Heel Spur Syndrom
  • Osteoporosis
  • Ligament injuries

Sports Injuries, accidents and disorders of the tendon and surrounding tissues

  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Stretched ligaments
  • Golfers / Tennis elbow
  • Hip and shoulder injuries
  • Calcaneal tendonitis
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Micro fractures
  • Whiplash

Pathologies of the major and minor extremities, the spinal column and inter-vertebral discs.

Damage to the inter-vertebral discs

Osteoarthritis and arthrosis

Does it work?

We have been working with this German Technology MBST (also known as MRT or Magnetic Resonance Therapy) for over 15 years.

There are many studies that have been done – English copies are available on our clinic website but can also be made available in Spanish, German and a variety of other languages.

Success rates for the clinical trials average at around 70% – slightly higher for knees, ankles and hands, slightly lower for hips and backs.

We have found that the inclusion of physiotherapy support can easily bring that success rate above 80%.

This is a particularly powerful option for those patients who are struggling or unable to comply with current recommendations (medication / surgery / prolonged rehab).

Practicalities of the treatment

3 different machines are available depending on the area to be treated:

  • Large bed (750) treats: Necks / shoulders / spine / hips / both knees / both ankles
  • Small Unit (350) treats: Single Ankle / Elbow / Hand / Knee
  • Osteoporosis Bed – for osteoporosis exclusively – treats the whole body

Treatments are done in packages of 3, 5, 7 or 9 hours on consecutive days.

  • Generally speaking the longer the patient has had the problem and / or the older the patient, the more hours they require.
  • You can do 2 hours in 1 day but results can be approx. 10% less
  • We strongly recommend that this is combined with physiotherapy on each day of treatment as well as a 6 week follow up (minimum) for optimum results
  • Short term effects – reduction in inflammation, neural pain and increased mobility
  • Long term effects – cellular regeneration in cartilage, ligaments, tendon and bones
The patient is made comfortable and sits or lies for 1 hour each day. They can read, listen to music, use their phone or watch a movie during this time. The machine is painless and quiet.
It it critical that 3 consecutive days are completed before taking a break for the weekend. Therefore treatment must start before Wednesday of each week.
Patients must be well hydrated for optimum results. We recommend 1.5litres of water per day and no alcohol on treatment days.

How it works for you

There are 3 different options depending on the support and space available to you within your own clinic.

  1. Direct referral to us we provide all physiotherapy during the course
  2. Use of the machine of your choice for your patient while you provide all support – fixed hourly price
  3. Use of the machine for your at home patients – fixed fee per treatment hour (additional rental / transport fees may apply).
Billing can be arranged directly with the patient or invoiced to your company.
We strongly recommend physiotherapy support during and after treatment and can arrange for this to be provided either on your premises or in our clinic as preferred.
